bccr stood to bring attention to how our

voting rights are under attack

We gathered to say: we are watching, we are counting, and we will not be silent.
In April 2026, the Supreme Court gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act — the last major federal protection against racially discriminatory electoral maps. Within days, Louisiana suspended an active primary election to redraw maps eliminating majority-Black congressional districts. Redistricting efforts aimed at erasing Black political representation are now underway in Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

this didn't happen in isolation. Over the past sixteen months, the legal architecture built over sixty years — through moral courage and real sacrifice — has been quietly dismantled. Protections against segregated federal workplaces, gone. Fair housing enforcement, gutted. The nation's top Black military officer, fired without cause. The first Black Librarian of Congress, terminated by a two-sentence email. Black unemployment rising at nearly five times the rate of white unemployment, driven by mass federal job cuts.

The Supreme Court's voting rights decision is not the beginning. It may be the point of no return.

women's reproductive rights

The Supreme Court is once again putting women's lives at risk.
Arguments this week could restrict access to mifepristone — a safe, FDA-approved medication used for over two decades to manage miscarriages, treat ectopic pregnancies, and yes, end unwanted ones. This isn't abstract.

Medical decisions belong to patients and their doctors. Not courts.

Black History Month is not just about the past. It's about what we choose to do in the present. we stood to uplift Black voices, demand justice, and visibly commit to an anti-racist future. We believe that honoring history means showing up in the now.

Even in the cold, our shared commitment to justice warmed the streets. Your voices were strong, united, and full of heart in support of immigrants and their families.

This isn’t just about policy...it’s about human lives, families, and communities. The RECKLESS tactics being used on our streets and in our neighborhoods by ICE must STOP. We stand firmly against practices that put lives at risk and harm people who deserve dignity, safety, and fairness. This has to STOP, and ICE must be held accountable and REMOVED from our communities.

At BCCR, we believe MLK Day is not just a day to remember
