Title: Walking To Church

This 10-inch x 20-inch acrylic on canvas board was generously donated by Joseph M. Chéry.

Mr. Chéry  is a community peace activist and a self-taught visual artist, who began painting at five.

This is how he describes his mission:
“My mission as an artist is to create visual social political commentaries to foster conversations, dispel myths and promote the rich Haitian culture. My paintings are community billboards where I post calls for conversations and discussions about issues affecting our

Images by Katherine Honey
“Regardless of my reason to paint, like a wonderful vacation, painting renews me. Whatever priorities, emotions, and concerns existed before I raise my brush disappear. Hours evaporate and I am refreshed and ready to focus on what needs to be done.”

Picture
Picture
Katherine often paints a series of paintings featuring specific locations such as U.S. National Parks and historic sites. This box of 5 note cards with envelopes represents 5 of several paintings made at Country Gardens in Rehoboth, MA.

Pictured top: Santa Greetings (left) and Santa Welcome (right).
Pictured bottom Holiday Angel (left) and SnoPal Joy (right).
Katherine has painted several SnoPals, "...each with its own charming character. Joy brings smiles and good cheer for the holidays and throughout the year."
Some of Katherine's work is inspired by Holiday Events at the National Black Doll Museum of History and Culture.
Katherine says, "Black dolls help tell the stories of African-American history."

                            Print Title "Field Day"
Artist Note: Stop and smell the flowers or start anew. Life moves fast but don't allow those anxious thoughts to slow you down. Everything is in perfect timing no matter the speed. Continue to do what it is that you enjoy, even if that's nothing.
Picture
                       Print Title "Summer Solstice"
Artist note: The light within you is shining brighter than ever. May your rays continue to raise the spirits of all those around you.
Picture
   Print Title "Trust the Universe"
Artist note: What's meant for you, will find its way. Sometimes we don't know what to do, and that's okay. When your heart, and your mind, wrap you in confusion...have faith, look up, and TRUST.
Picture
Print Title "Third Time's a Charm"
Artist note: Do you feel the magic in the air? Hands up, growing up, and showing that we care. Cheers to the unity that's happening day to night. Cheers to our future that's looking oh so bright.
Picture
    Print Title "Love Thy Neighbor"
Artist note: One thing is for certain, we're all in this world together. Perhaps we'll see eye to eye if we take a moment to sit down and break bread with all those we share this beautiful home called Earth with. Let's drop our egos and raise our hearts - that's a picture perfect picnic.
