About Us​

Since 2015, Bridgewater Communities for Civil Rights (BCCR) has worked to defend individual rights and fight bias and racism in Bridgewater, MA. Rooted in compassion and advocacy, we focus on four pillars: educating the public, mobilizing action, building support networks, and influencing policy — all to create a more just and inclusive community.

Our History

A group of Bridgewater citizens formed Bridgewater Citizens for Civility and Respect (BCCR) in the winter of 2015/2016 after two local incidents of individuals being verbally harassed due to their perceived Muslim identity. BCCR's goal is to make Bridgewater a welcoming and inclusive community where civility and respect prevail. The Town Council unanimously approved a Proclamation on January 19, 2016, affirming the right of all residents to live without fear of verbal or physical assault and to express their culture freely. BCCR now encourages local businesses and organizations to display the Proclamation to promote civility and respect.
