Reproductive Justice Standout

Picture

BCCR Stands Out For

Reproductive Justice and
Bodily Autonomy: the ability to make decisions in relation to your own body ... having autonomy to determine your own fate without undue policing of your body...a prerequisite to living a life with dignity.
Freedom to make decisions about reproductive choices has been under attack since the 2022 Dobbs vs. Jackson decision and dismantling of Roe V. Wade.

In addition, this decision has led to nationwide restrictions on the right to bodily autonomy, which impacts LGBTQ+ rights and gender-affirming care.

Tree Planting for Arbor Day

Bridgewater's Tree Planting Committee invited the public to observe Arbor Day with them as they planted a cherry tree in front of the Williams Intermediate School on South Street.

BCCR's Ray Ajemian, Chair of the Committee, described the importance of Bridgewater's designation as a Tree City, thanking those whose assistance was instrumental, with a particular nod to Nicole Holmes, without whom the designation would not have materialized

You can hear those who spoke thanks to BTV access, who have provided this link.

The ceremony will also air on BTV's Channel 9 on:
Sunday 4/28 at 3:30 p.m.
Monday 4/29 at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday 5/1 at 10: 30 a.m.

BCCR at BSU Health Equity Event

Picture
BCCR members were invited by Bridgewater State University Wellness Center's DEI Staff Counselor Tanya Ross to participate in the Center's Health Equity Resource Event on April 16, 2024. The goal of the event was to inform BSU students about health disparities and racial, social and justice organizations they could get involved with or seek help from.

Tanya expressed particular interest in organizations that are locally active and who can show how they implement change on the local level. BCCR fit the bill!

Data from HRC and the University of Connecticut’s 2023 LGBTQ+ Youth Report, detailing findings from a 2022 survey of nearly 13,000 LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-18 nationwide, found that LGBTQ+ youth–and trans and gender-expansive youth in particular–face bullying, harassment, and violence in school at alarming rates.

We must demand better from our elected officials and reject harmful anti-transgender legislation at the local, state and federal levels, while also considering every possible way to make ending this violence a reality.
